Day 186 of Firsts: Sing in the Independence Day Parade in Philly

Patriotism is easy to understand in America - it means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country.  ~Calvin Coolidge

The Fourth of July is a great day to be in Philly.  I'm so proud to show off the city to family  in town visiting from New York and Cincinnati.

So my cousin gave me a real gift today.  He offered me the opportunity to sing and march in Philadelphia's  Independence Day Parade.   Noel Dickson has been here at the Barbershop Harmony Convention and members were invited to sing in the parade.  Each member could bring someone with them.  So glad it was me.

We sang God Bless America at least 15 times.  Each time with feeling as the crowd cheered.  What a high.

It was hot as you know what and amazingly we were moved up to the front of the parade.  ( I felt really bad for those folks in big heavy costumes still waiting to march as we finished our  mile parade route  around town.)

It was a whole new way to see the city I love from inside the parade.  Fantastic.  Happy 4th of July.
