Day 226 of Firsts: Check In on Foursquare

Looking at the proliferation of personal web pages on the Net, it looks like very soon everyone on Earth will have 15 megabytes of fame.  ~M.G. Sriram

Anyone who can explain Foursquare to me , I'm ready.  I'm not sure I get this thing: A social network which encourages you to "check in" everywhere you go.

You get points? You can become the "Mayor" of some place if you get more points there than anyone else?  That's about the extent of my knowledge.  I'm not even sure that's right.

As a person in the media, a communicator, I feel it's my responsibility to explore this stuff.  Anyway, I'm on Foursquare for the moment.  Do I need to be there? You tell me.  Hmmmm.....
