Summer interns in the NBC 10 investigative office are special. They work long hours, generally five days a week and we get pretty close to them. Every summer before they leave I throw a little goodbye party where we just hang out, swim and debrief a little.
Today interns David Kaplan, Monica Yantosh, Cherri Gregg, Will O'Donnell, Samantha Ulan and producer Ed Dress all helped me make ( or at least taste) ice cream I made without an ice cream maker. (It was surprisingly easy).
More importantly we talked about their own firsts as interns at NBC 10.
I have to say, our interns teach us as much as we teach them. We send them off and have watched many become accomplished journalists. It's so gratifying to see and we have great expectations for this group. Thanks Cherri, Monica, Will, David, Sam and Ashley (who couldn't make the party). We wish you the best.

Awww!! I miss the investigators! The first I remember as an investigators intern was in my first few weeks as an intern I went up to Kearny, NJ with Harry to confront someone who was scamming people via CraigsList and he called the cops on us. And then called us to curse Harry out over the phone. And then I found out that it is legal in NJ to record phone conversations without a second party consent.

Your interns hopefully know it now, but just for hearing those firsts are some of the luckiest anywhere in TV journalism. So much great hands-on experience. I was fortunate to have much the same at WFOR in Miami, but that's far from the case everywhere. Great work Lu Ann, Harry & Ed teaching these folks how to be the best!
